How the TP/SL (Take Profit / Stop Loss) Function Works on Coinlocally?

Introduction

This article explains how the TP/SL (Take Profit / Stop Loss) function operates on Coinlocally Futures, including supported order types, how multiple TP/SL orders behave, and why liquidation may still occur even when a Stop Loss is set.

Supported Order Types for TP/SL

The TP/SL function is available for the following order types:

  • Limit
  • Market
  • Stop Limit
  • Stop Market

The Trailing Stop Order does not support TP/SL.

Behavior of TP/SL When Position Size Changes

If you increase or reduce your position size, the TP/SL will automatically apply to the entire updated position.

This means all TP/SL conditions will be triggered based on the new total size.

Using Multiple TP/SL Orders

Users can set multiple Take Profit and Stop Loss orders for the same long or short position.

Key behaviors:

  • Orders execute in the sequence they were placed.
  • Execution continues until the combined executed size equals the full position size.
  • Remaining TP/SL orders will not execute once the position is fully closed.

Reason SL Can Be Set Worse Than Liquidation Price

Coinlocally allows traders to place Stop Loss prices even if they are worse than the liquidation price.

This flexibility supports different trading strategies and risk preferences.

Traders should always verify their SL price before confirming the order.

Reason Liquidation Can Occur Despite Having a Stop Loss

Liquidation may still happen if the Stop Loss is set to trigger using a different reference price than expected.

For example:

  • SL may be set to trigger on Last Price
  • Liquidation always triggers based on Mark Price

If Mark Price reaches the liquidation level before the SL trigger condition is met, liquidation will occur.

Reason Liquidation Occurs Even When Chart Price Didn’t Hit Liquidation Level

Coinlocally uses Mark Price to trigger liquidation, not the last traded price shown on the chart.

Mark Price is designed to:

  • Reduce unfair liquidations
  • Prevent manipulation
  • Reflect a more stable market value

This means liquidation can occur even if the chart’s visible price never touched the liquidation level.
