What Is a Post Only Order?
Introduction
This article explains what a Post Only Order is and how it works on Coinlocally Futures. A Post Only order ensures your order is added to the order book as a maker order and never executes immediately. This helps traders avoid taker fees and maintain control over their entry price.
How Post Only Orders Work
A Post Only order will only be placed if it can enter the order book without executing instantly.
If your price would cause an immediate trade, the system cancels the order automatically.
Buy Example
- Market price: 20,000 USDT
- A Post Only buy order must be below the market price (e.g., 18,000 USDT)
- If you place a Post Only buy order above the market price (e.g., 22,000 USDT), it would execute immediately — so the system cancels it.
Sell Example
- Market price: 20,000 USDT
- A Post Only sell order must be above the market price (e.g., 22,000 USDT)
- If you place a Post Only sell order below the market price (e.g., 18,000 USDT), it would execute immediately — so the system cancels it.
How to Place a Post Only Order on Coinlocally
- Log in to your Coinlocally account and go to the Futures Trading page.
- Select your trading pair (e.g., BTCUSDT).
- Choose Post Only as your order type.
- Set your Limit Price and enter your Size.
- Click Buy/Long or Sell/Short to place your order.
Your Post Only order will appear in the Open Orders section.
Once triggered and filled, it will move to the Positions tab.
After closing, you can review details in Order History or Trade History.
Additional notes
- You can switch between BTC and USDT units by clicking the BTC button.
- The slider can help you automatically calculate your order size.
- Post Only orders are ideal for traders who want to provide liquidity and avoid taker fees.
Common Issues
- Setting a price that would execute immediately causes the system to cancel the order.
- Forgetting to select Post Only results in a normal limit order.
- Using Post Only during fast price movements may cause frequent cancellations.
